The
Silver
Valley is known as a four-season mountain recreation
paradise, and the historic town of
Wallace
(pop. 960)
is known as "The Silver Capital of the World."
With three museums, a mine tour and many places to buy
silver jewelry, the charm of this town entirely on the
National Registry of Historic Places is captivating.
As are the majestic mountains that surround the town.
Eighty percent of the county is public land so the
possibilities for outdoor adventures abound... and they
are growing! For example, the new 72-mile-long paved
Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes bike
path follows the century long route of ore cars from
the Lucky Friday Mine in Mullan downstream to Wallace,
past the other mines in the Silver Valley, through the
isolated chain lakes region, along the shore of Lake
Coeur d'Alene, over a bridge and up a canyon to Plummer
on the Palouse Prairie.
Why not bring the entire family, stay an extra day or two,
rent some bikes and see it all?
